About Salome

1885.

Salome is a novice Benedictine nun who discovers her true purpose when she murders another sister inside her convent in Turin.

After she makes her confession, she awaits the gallows, but she is spared and instead brought to Liverpool to join a clandestine order.

The training is relentless, and she struggles to prove her worth when she is plagued by a recurring nightmare. Every time she sleeps, she is haunted by an enemy she doesn’t know how to fight. Her guardians cannot help her, she must find the way forward alone.

Salome has a rare gift, one that the Church hopes will help them in the enduring battle against the forces of Evil.

Her guides hope she will use her gift for good, but it is not up to them.

God has made her suffer. Demons promise comfort.

The road ahead is still unpaved, but all the signs point to temptation.

Salome is a Victorian era Gothic/Religious horror inspired by classic Gothic Literature such as Bram Stoker’s Dracula, John Polidori’s The Vampire and religious horror novels such as The Exorcist. It is an occult mystery novel about faith, the enduring battle between good and evil, found family, and making the right decision, even if it is the most painful one.

Inspiration behind Salome

This book came about as a way to tell myself the lore of vampires and demons in Daniel Muldoon’s world of late 19th century Liverpool. Daniel Muldoon is an occult detective assisting the Liverpool City Police with their strangest cases, but it wasn’t always that way.

I was preparing to write the third instalment of the Muldoon supernatural thriller series (the next book after The Ring) but I realised I didn’t know enough about how or what I wanted my vampires to be in this world. I was also going to be introducing Salome as a character in that book, so I felt she needed her own origin story, too! It has turned out beautifully and now we have a coming of age horror mystery about a Benedictine nun who slays vampires. What’s not to love?

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this part of the Muldoon supernatural thriller series?

This is not a book directly related to the Muldoon Gothic mysteries. It is however, part of the wider Muldoon universe and the characters do cross over. Salome is its own novel, serving as more of a prequel novel to the Muldoon supernatural thriller series. Those who already know occult detective Daniel Muldoon will be keen to learn more about him through the eyes of other characters, but being familiar with the Muldoon series is not necessary for this book.

I don’t use Amazon. Will I be able to buy this book elsewhere?

This book is available anywhere that sells books online. You can purchase a paperback from Tiny Worlds Publishing, Barnes And Noble, Indigo, Waterstones and many more international online bookstores.

The ebook is also available on every ebook platform out there! This includes Kindle, Kobo, Gimmebook and Apple Books.

Is this novel also a murder mystery like the Muldoon Gothic thrillers?

Salome is more of an urban fantasy, religious horror mystery that follows a young nun on her journey from a sheltered Turinese convent to a secret Religious Order in the heart of Victorian Liverpool. While it is a mystery and there is murder, the main focus is the mystery of Salome’s life and the barriers she has to overcome to save herself and others from the Legion, who want to claim her for her powers.

Are signed copies available?
